Skillful Compassion Meditation

Try this new meditation technique called Skillful Compassion; it puts the happiness of others before our own. 

When you breath in, imagine breathing all the difficulties of others.
When you breath out, imagine exchanging it for all the good things you have ever experienced in your life.
By sharing these moments of good fortune with others, although it sounds counter-intuitive, can lead to a greater feeling of happiness in your mind.

I tried this technique when I first started practicing mediation and I found it difficult to focus on stillness and training my mind to let go of thoughts instead of chasing after them. Skillful Compassion gives me something to think about. When I am finished with my mediation, I am happier because I have sent good energy to those who are experiencing hardships and turmoil and it also reminds me of how many good experiences I have had in my life which generates gratitude.
